Does Size Matter

Most Malaysians seem to have an uncanny obsession for everything big. We want BIG businesses, BIG homes, BIG cars and whatnot. Many of us believe that the size of the car we drive and the house we live reflect our social standing and financial success; we often see that as a standard by which others judge us.

Yes, size does matters in every aspect of our society since we are living in a society where each day presents its own set of measures. Unfortunately, like it or not, this is a fact of life that many of us have a hard time admitting, but which we know to be substantially true.

But when it comes to the way of living one's life, does size really matter? These are some reality-check questions that you ought to be asking over and over again such as: Why do you want a BIG house? Does a BIG house makes you anymore safer and calmer? Do you really need that much room? How may huge parties and family gathering are you going to have? Do you really need a BIG house to make you feel happy?

Think about the amount of time, energy, and effort to maintain and clean a BIG house. What about the environmental impact and its carbon footprint - since a BIGGER house needs more resources to build and maintain. To build BIG or not is a personal decision that weighs in a large number of factors that no one can make for you. Only you know all the variables that come into play when making your decision.

Building small has many tangible benefits that we often neglect to recognize. What makes a house conducive to live in is not how big it is. What matters is the quality of space and appropriate use of materials that give characters to a house and render a space meaningful.

One should build BETTER instead of BIGGER!
